Can I check my
Spinn.Net email account from work or another ISP?
|
|
Yes you can! the simplest
way is to use Spinn.Net WebMail or read on!
Say you have an email account through Spinn.Net but at work you are on a network that
uses another ISP for access to the internet. Our systems are setup to allow you to send
email from another location if you've checked your incoming email first. The way it works
is that our system records your address temporarily when you check your email and then
allows you to send email for a while after that. To you it should be all-but-invisible but
just in case you can't send mail from another location, make sure you check your mail
first. The reason this is setup this way is to make
sure only Spinn.Net customers have access to our computers and our systems are not
made available to our customers because of heavy outside use. Spammers
and mailbombers regularly use other people's computers to hide behind and to offload
costs of sending massive amounts of email to unsuspecting third-parties. Mail systems
that are setup to let others use their computers to send mail are called 'open
relays' and are not setup correctly.

Why can't I get all my eMail?
|
|
Almost all email clients, such as
Outlook Express and Netscape Mail, can have problems
with receiving large email attachments over modems that can cause a couple of different
problems with your email. The two most common problems are:
In all cases so far, this has occurred with Outlook Express
and can be taken care of by changing the following setting:
-
Open Outlook Express
-
Go to the Tools menu and click on Accounts
-
Click on your email account in the window and click Properties
-
Click on the Advanced tab
-
In the middle of the window is a setting called Server
Timeouts; slide the slider over to 4 or 5
minutes
-
Click OK to all open windows, Close
You can also go to webmail.spinn.net
- "mark" the problem emails and then "Delete marked messages".

It takes
too long to connect

TCP/IP
settings: Let's check and change your settings. Double click My Computer
icon on your desktop. Double click Dial-Up Networking, Now right click the
Spinn.Net icon and click properties, click Server Types and the Only items check need to
be: enable software compression and TCP/IP. Now click OK and close all other windows by
clicking OK.
Deleting
old Dial-Ups: Using the same steps as above to get into Dial-Up Networking
folder. There should be only the Spinn.Net icon in this folder. You need to
delete old dialups that you are no longer using. Right click the old dialups icon
and click delete, are you sure Yes. Having multiple or old dialups cause conflicts
when software programs are trying to connect automatically to the internet. These programs
get confused on which dialup to use.

Call
Waiting: While connected to the Internet and you receive and incoming telephone
call you will be disconnected. You need to disable it in the Dial properties.
(get
instructions)
Modem
speed: In Control Panel, select Modems, with your modem highlighted select
Properties. Set maximum speed to no higher than 57600. To definitely rule this
problem out, set to 9600.
Dial
up adapters: They become corrupted for what ever reasons, we'll just say it is a
Microsoft thing and move on. Let's eliminate this possible problem. First delete all
shortcuts to the Spinn.Net dial up adapter on your desktop (Short-cut
to Spinn.Net). Now let's recreated the Dial up to Spinn.Net (get instructions)
It is also a good idea to
delete any other Dialups you have to previous ISP's at this time. Old dialups can
cause problems to email clients and other programs connecting to the Internet
automatically.
US West:
We have put this last on our list but you might want to check with your
phone company first?! Besides more of your hard earned money is dispersed
to them.
No, we are not passing the buck. Let's face it there are allot of little tiny wires
out there making this Surfing thing work. And they require some heavy maintenance.
Did I mention that allot of them are really old. What's the point?
Simply call US West and have them come out and check your phone lines.
"If this was not true
all customers with a 56k Zoom modem would connect a 53300!! |
Tell them what kind of problems you are having, whether it be
static or just modem speed. Just the other day one our Customers did just that, after
having all these same problems. Frustrated with their computer and I'm sure Us. They
called US West and now they have gone from a 26k connection to a 44k connection.
Wow!!
