SpinnNet Linux Distribution Reviews
Review Guidelines
We welcome any users who would like to submit reviews of Linux distributions to the
Review Page to do so. We just have a couple of guidelines we'd like you to follow when
submitting reviews. Here they are, in no particular order.
- The review should be around 300-400 words. Don't count the words, though, I'm not going
to. That should be about 3 paragraphs. Check out the first WinLinux
review for a medium sized review and the Redhat 6 review
by sysadmin for a long review.
- If you'd like to review a distribution that has already been reviewed, please feel free
to do so. Just try to cover ground that has not already been covered before. Once one
person says that DistroX activates sendmail when most users don't need it, it doesn't need
to be said again.
- If you're new to Linux and want to review the first distribution you've ever played
with, please do. There are quite a few people just coming around to Linux and they need
reviews of distributions done by people who are new like them. If you're new to Linux,
focusing on the installation process is a good way to go, but not the only subject of
interest.
- Please don't submit reviews that are just 'DistroX is crap. blah blah blah' We need
reviews of why DistroX isn't up to snuff, what needs to be improved if it's not good, etc.
- If you have a financial stake in the success of DistroX (you own shares in or work for
DistroX Corp, etc), please disclose that in the review. People don't need to be lead
astray in choosing a distribution, it's a hard enough job as it is.
- Don't attack other people's reviews. Make your own review and if you had different
experiences, let people know that.
- If you want me to leave out your username and/or email address, please tell me. The
review will say 'Review by sysadmin'
unless you tell me not to. (obviously sysadmin will be changed to your name) Otherwise it
will read 'Review by auser' (A User, get it?)
- There may be more guidelines in the future. Please stay tuned.
Finally, if you've read all the suggestions above, please submit your review by
emailing it in HTML or text format to sysadmin@spinn.net
We reserve the right to edit out any foul language and/or attacks on other
reviewers/distributions. I also reserve the right to edit your review's format if you send
it in HTML. Here's a hint, don't use the blink tag. :)
